Village Invasion Forces Family to Live locked inside a Room on the Ground Floor

ISM, 18/09/07. Four days ago, the Israeli army invaded the town of Deir Istiya (Salfit district). They said they were there to catch militants- but what they did was break apart the gate to the village school and harass the people inside the town. The IOF have occupied a house in the village for the past four days. They have locked the upper floors of the house, leaving the family in the bottom floor. The family's belongings, including the children's schoolbooks, that were upstairs at the time of the occupation, remain locked upstairs. The soldiers come and go as they please, never telling the family when they are coming. When they do arrive, the family is locked inside a room on the ground floor for the duration of the soldiers' 'visit'.

The local villagers have also complained of harassment by the soldiers. They say they have been targeted with tear gas and sound bombs. They also feel afraid to walk the village streets as hummers and jeeps rush through at any hour.

The soldiers have said they will stay another week. This situation is creating unacceptable human consequences in the lives of the villagers there, especially of the family living directly under occupation.
